In August 2016, WTW Films Limited UK signed an agreement with All3Media International to purchase the successful New Zealand format Step Dave – a 16-episode family comedy-drama. Following the success of the first season, which debuted in New Zealand in February 2014, it has been extended for a second season.
Kateryna Vyshnevska, Head of Development at WTW Films Limited, comments:
“In this somber time and age, we were looking for a light-hearted and life-affirming story and Step Dave immediately appealed to us. It is a great study of modern marriage. The drama and comedy inherent in a relationship where a woman is significantly older than the man and comes with the ‘baggage’ of kids is universally understood. Also, crucially, every joke in the story serves to advance the story. Step Dave is light hearted, but by no means superficial.“
The Ukrainian version is set to start filming in June and continue until the end of August under the working title Step Dan.
